Metaphor A to Z

Tongue

The function of the tongue is to manipulate food for chewing, speech production and taste.

The tongue reflects issues of communication, sensitivity, taste, discernment, direction, interest, sexuality and sassiness.

Problems with the tongue are a sign that we are holding back something we don’t want to say – ‘biting our tongue.’

We may also be acting in spiteful way or holding back spite – “biting our tongue to spite our face.”

It can also be a sign we are facing an issue around vulnerability or sex.
