Metaphor A to Z

Fainting Vasovagal Attack

Fainting is a loss of consciousness due to cerebral anemia or insufficient blood supply to the brain. The body needs to ‘lie down immediately’ to increase blood flow to the brain.

Fainting means that we are feeling shocked by an issue that comes up and we would rather ‘black out’ than face it immediately.

Fainting is a withdrawal that we use to buy ourselves time to deal with shock. We are not taking a stand and are resorting to the basic defense of flight instead.
