Metaphor A to Z

Apathy

This symptom of indifference and lack of emotion means that we have become disheartened. We have hit a wall in our life and are unable to breach it. Apathy comes from the Greek a pathos and literally means “without feeling.” It is a form of depression where we have dissociated from life because there are too many overwhelming feelings to deal with.

There is a loss that we have not gotten over. Apathy is a defense against future loss and is also a compensation for feeling that we care too much. It reflects a place where we have lost heart. It is a place of burn out. We need to heal this past loss, regain our heart and become inspired once again.
